Hi all! I hope you are doing well!
This week I thought I would give some information about
YWAM, where I will be going, what I will be doing, and give some info about how
you can join me.
First off, YWAM stands for Youth With A Mission. It was
started in the 60's by Loren Cunningham. While on a mission trip to the
Bahamas, God gave Mr. Cunningham a vision of waves of young people spreading
across every nation. At the time, he had no clue how this would happen. But,
with God's help, what started out as a four person organization, has turned
into 18,000 people working at 1,000 locations in 180 different countries. This
organization trains young people to "Go into all the world and preach the
good news to all creation." If you would like to know more about YWAM I
have posted a link to the right of this page that will take you directly to
that website.
Where I will be going is called YWAM Destination Paradise. I
will be participating in the September Disciple Training School (DTS) which is
required if you want to do anything with YWAM. It is a five month long mission
trip. The first three months, the lecture phase, will be held on the island of
Ambergris Caye in Belize. During this
phase, I will be engaging in challenging course work, listening to live
speakers, have one on one sessions with my leaders, and most importantly
training to be a missionary. The last two months, the outreach phase, I have no
idea where I will be. I do not find out any information until I get there. All
I know is that it can be anywhere in the world. This particular YWAM location
focuses on leadership. It will be a community style living situation. Each of
us will be given daily chores. We will be cooking all our food as well. I will
not have any phone or internet service at the base, but I can hitch a ride on a
water taxi into town and find an internet cafe. Also, once a week, students are
given the opportunity to sign up for a ride into town with the leaders for
free. I plan on doing this every week! I will only be allowed to bring one bag,
yes one! Everything I need for five months has to fit in this bag and it has to
weigh under 50 lbs. I have to bring clothes, towels, wash clothes, a sleeping
bag, sleeping pad, toiletries, ect... Oh and it has to be a backpack no bigger
than 98 liters!! It will definitely be a God thing if I get everything I need
into my bag! I am a slight over packer...but I have already started mentally
packing and I think I can do it!
Now, onto the the part where you can help! I am trusting God
to bring in $8,000. I am thrilled to report I have gotten $3866.13 in about 12
weeks! While reading in my devotion on Monday these words stood out, "The
Lord only builds a bridge of faith directly under the feet of a faithful
traveler. He never builds the bridge a few steps ahead, for then it would not
be one of faith. 'We live by faith, not by sight' (2 Cor. 5:7)" The amount
of money I have right now is enough to pay for the lecture phase of my trip
plus a few small needed items. I still have to have faith that He will provide
for my outreach phase, my travel shots, my backpack, sleeping bag,
transportation to my outreach destination, and various things during these five
months. I know that He will provide the rest, but only when the time is right!
First, I ask that you will be praying for me, that my
financial needs be met, and that God prepares me mentally and physically for my
trip!
Second, if God lays it on your hear to donate, there is a
link at the bottom of this page for online giving through the YWAM DP website
or you can contact me and I will give you my
address.
Third, I am having a fundraiser on July 14th, at my Aunt
Tara's beauty shop in Harrisburg. The link to that is at the top of the page.
We will be selling homemade cupcakes and cake pops, coasters and rings in order
to raise money for my trip. If you are not able to come but would still like to
buy something, I will post pictures of the items we have and you can contact me
with the item you would like to purchase!
As always, thank you so much for your support,
encouragement, and for reading my posts!
